About Jaakko Leinonen

Status Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Tampere in group Laivuori. Experience Experienced computational geneticist with a molecular genetics background. Skilled in handling big data (e.g. from the FinnGen project and UK Biobank), and performing various types of epidemiological and genetic analyses ranging from hands-on molecular biology work to GWAS and Mendelian Randomization. Current project is aimed at uncovering the complex genetic background of pre-eclampsia. Ph.D. thesis focused on translating genetic association results into biological knowledge by combining human data with zebrafish models including CRISPR-Cas9 knockouts. Post-doctoral work at FIMM concentrated on mapping how genetic mechanisms contribute to sex differences in health and disease, with a special focus on hormonal genetics and early-life development. Personal interests include family and endurance sports such as cross-country skiing, orienteering, and running.
