Background
About Jack Binks
Managing Director and Owner of Arronbeth and Arronbeth Therapeutic Care and an academic at Newcastle University. Caring for children we offer a stable, caring environment, which creates positive attitudes and proactive support plans to each child and young person in our care. Our emphasis is on creating a holistic environment of therapeutic care where young people are encouraged to explore their potential and develop their character. To learn more about the service we provide please visit our website or give us a call. My academic interest is in the study of human motor control. The main body of this research focusses on developing the understanding of the phenomena combined action observation and motor imagery (AO+MI); within the disciplines of Psychology, Neuroscience and Rehabilitation. I have spent the last three years researching the extent to which complex motor skills can be learned in the absence of any physical practice. By using the combined approach of action observation and motor imagery (AO+MI are two forms of motor simulation that have been widely shown to elicit some of the same neural substrates that support physical movement execution itself) we have been able to report clinically significant increases in the proficiency of motor execution. In the last year we have continued to develop this research and created a unique form of rehabilitation for a post-stroke population where traditional physiotherapy is either impossible or impractical. While working with this group we were able to replicate the exciting findings from our healthy population. Our findings suggest that combined AO+MI is potentially a more effective adjunct to physical practice in chronic stroke rehabilitation. You can find my work on
