About Jack Buono

Vice Admiral Jack Buono is the 13th Superintendent of the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York. Jack Buono, previously, retired as President and CEO of SeaRiver Maritime, Inc, an ExxonMobil marine subsidiary headquartered in Houston, Texas, in 2016. He chaired the Board of International Marine Transportation Limited, an ExxonMobil subsidiary in Great Britain, and he chaired the ExxonMobil Global Marine Center providing commercial, technical and operations functional guidance to ExxonMobil affiliates throughout the world on shipping and marine transportation.Upon graduation from the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point in 1978, Jack joined the Marine Department of Exxon Company USA, a predecessor organization of SeaRiver Maritime, Inc. Between 1978 and 1986 he served as deck officer aboard various sized crude and chemical tankers before being promoted to Master mariner. In 1991 Jack transferred ashore where he progressed through the management ranks before retiring as President and CEO of SeaRiver Maritime in 2016.Jack has been an invited speaker at the Naval War College, Army War College, National Defense University, United States Naval Academy, the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Columbia University, Virginia PolyTechnical University, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, the Seaman’s Church Institute, and the North American Marine Environmental Preservation.
