About Jack Burian

I am currently a third-year student at Purdue University, majoring in Aquatic Sciences with a concentration in Marine Biology. I am committed to advancing my knowledge and skills in aquatic sciences, and am fortunate to be involved in a research study at Purdue that explores trophic interactions between various fish populations across multiple basins in Lake Mälaren, Sweden. This research study uses isotopic analysis to gain insights into these complex ecological relationships. I have gained valuable hands-on experience in animal husbandry thanks to my time as an intern and seasonal keeper at Washington Park Zoo, where I developed strong skills in animal care. My field experience in aquatic sampling techniques has grown significantly through my time at Purdue, enabling me to better understand the steps that go into research. By broadening my expertise in both aquatic and environmental sciences, I aim to contribute to innovative solutions for urgent global challenges, such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and sustainable water resource management. I am driven by the desire to protect, preserve, and understand our planet's diverse and magnificent aquatic ecosystems.
