About Jack Corfield

I grew up on Protection Island, a quiet community in the Nanaimo Harbour. I graduated high school through various homeschooling programs, which made me a self-directed learner. I've worked full time, part-time and over time, sometimes doing three jobs at once. My first job was at a marine gas station, where I quickly excelled after my first summer to become Assistant Manager at 17 y/o. At 19, I joined my little island's on-call fire department, where I dealt with everything from house fires to heart attacks. At 20, I began working as a line cook at my family's restaurant, before and after it changed owners. I've been an Assistant Manager for the kitchen, working prep, line, bar and dish-pit for 5 years. For 9 months, I filled the role of chef, managing orders and invoices, pricing, inventory, and employees. After many years in the service industry, I decided to take on full-time courses a VIU focusing on Creative Writing, Media Studies, and English Literature. In 2023 I served as co-managing editor for the VIU literary magazine, Portal. I restarted and served as president of VIU's Creative Writing Club. Then I interned at the colledge radio station CHLY 101.7 FM, where I later filled-in as a podcast journalist for their non-profit newsroom, Midcoast Morning. I was also the first Podcast Editor for The Navigator, VIU's student press. This turned into a possition as Associate Media Editor, leading a team of videographers and podcasters for my last of 3 years at The Nav leading up to graduation. After which, I returned to CHLY as a junior producer and camp leader for their Radio Camp for Youth. All this while I've been fervently writing away to produce my first novel.
