About Jack Dewey
I’m a researcher interested in developing interpretable, human-aligned AI agents that can support a range of creative decision-making tasks. Underlying this is a model of human agents — how do humans apply their values to the countless decisions that make up a life? Some questions that interest me: How do agents form goals, and determine what is practically relevant in a new situation? What information do we attend to when we play a game, first encounter an engaging artwork or building, or during a conversation with another person? Before changing careers, I was a humanities graduate student at Yale and an undergrad in philosophy and religious studies at Stanford. I continue to enjoy discussing philosophy, literature, religion, and their computational analogs.
