About Jack Goodwin

Hello, and welcome to my LinkedIn profile. I am a soon to be Peer Worker working with children and adolescents presenting with mental illness. My aim is to represent the lived experiential component of mental illness in matters relating to the care and support of the above cohort. I have a backgroundin scientific research in psychology and neuroscience, and hope to unify both evidence based and top down components of care and the essential qualitative/subjective component that only direct experience can provide in facilitating recovery and standard-of-life. I have an intense interest in the undeniably complex and multi-faceted causes of mental illness and distress, with a particular focus on macro-environmental social and cultural factors. I believe there to be much potential for growth in challenging dominant socio-cultural conceptions of the nature of mental illness in providing assistance to those falling under its growing epidemiology. Qualitative experience and empirical evidence intersects in presenting particular narratives and shared motifs relating to the nature of recovery from mental health issues, and whilst there are many factors preventing their propagation in culture and practice, there is much to be gained from it. I hope to gain invaluable experience from the individuals I shall work with regarding how best to progress with the mental illness epidemic we are faced with and its particularly potent and distinct effect upon our youth and look forward to combatting it upon the front lines.
