About Jack H. Laverick
I'm a marine biologist and data scientist based in a maths and stats department in Scotland. I work on mathematical models describing the big picture strategic choices we can make when managing marine systems (Fisheries, Offshore Renewable Energy, Protected Areas). I am currently working on a series of models around the Atlantic basin, but have also studied Arctic ecosystems (Barents Sea and Greenland Sea), jellyfish blooms, and mesophotic coral ecosystems in the tropics. Alongside my research I'm engaged in improving ocean literacy as a founding member of the Youth 4 Ocean Forum. I spoke twice at COP26 and once at COP27 as a youth representative, and have run workshops on transgenerational storytelling at European Maritime Day '22 and the UN Ocean Conference '22.
