About Jack Hierholzer

Jack lives in Pensacola, FL with his wife and 2 children. He is an active volunteer with Barrancas Wreaths (via the Big Lagoon Kiwanis), Pensacon, and iTen Wired.(Are you local and interested in any of these organizations? HMU!) Jack has a BS degree in Environmental Sciences / Biology from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and an MBA from the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia. Jack initially worked with ESRI GIS – first for the state of Georgia producing digital and paper road maps, and later creating a tax parcel cadastral database for the City of Albany, GA. He then worked at Southern Company from to 2019, first as a GIS programmer for SoCo Services building distribution network models, then at Gulf Power where he was responsible for the outage management system (OMS). The Oracle network management system in use at Gulf Power at that time was built directly off the ESRI GIS data model. Jack retired from Gulf Power in 2019 after a 20-year career marked by technical innovation and on-time, under-budget implementations of OMS software upgrades and integrations. After a few years consulting with Trimble Energy supporting dozens of utilities across North America using the Trimble Network Information System (Trimble NIS) as their distribution management system (DMS), Jack moved back to the Oracle platform to their University group to produce training videos on using their Network Management System software as it continues to innovate and advance. Jack’s professional interests have expanded from system design, integration, programming and support to finding ways to share the data in these systems with customers in a digestible and meaningful way. A large part of doing this successfully involves surveying the industry landscape for best practices in a variety of channels to determine which options make the most sense for the company culture and their customers. Jack worked with Gulf Power to produce tools their customers would find useful for getting information when they need it (such as their award-winning Kubra power outage map) and now with Oracle University to share the many ways the Oracle NMS software tools can be used efficiently in the control center, the field, the engineering offices and the executive suite.
