About Jack Mitchell Blaikie
My PhD research focuses on the WHO-recognised priority pathogen Klebsiella pneumoniae, in a lab funded by an NHMRC grant awarded to combat antimicrobial resistance. I work to identify genetic resistance determinants and protein mutations which afford Klebsiella pneumoniae high levels of antibiotic resistance. Through the use of traditional microbiological techniques in tandem with breakthrough bioinformatic computational analysis, my research will help to combat the disease burden of this pathogen, inform future endeavours and influence policy. Since 2019, I have worked as a laboratory demonstrator, facilitator and tutor across scientific disciplines at both Flinders University and the University of South Australia.
