About Jackson Kemper

As a founder of a vertical farming startup, I aim to leverage technology and innovation to address food insecurity and environmental challenges. My venture combines my passion for service, which I developed in the US Navy, with my academic background in sustainable development at Columbia University. Prior to launching my startup, I served as an ICU Corpsman at Naval Hospital, Camp Pendleton where I thrived in high-pressure environments, managing the care of over 50 ICU patients independently. My adaptability was showcased when I completed my ICU orientation in under a month, and I collaborated closely with our clinical nursing specialist to implement numerous new policies in the ICU. This experience was complemented by my role in facilitating the transition of 8 nurses to the ICU from other departments. In addition to my ICU duties, I regularly assisted in the Emergency Department, particularly in triaging patients and monitoring those with psychiatric conditions. Beyond my hospital duties, I had the honor of mentoring members of the Naval Special Warfare community on IV fluid therapy and other field medicine techniques. During a 2-month combat medicine course, I led multiple teams as a squad leader, despite being a junior medic. My commitment to quality and standards was recognized in 2019/2020 when I was appointed as the lead supervisor for our directorate, ensuring our hospital's compliance with The Joint Commission standards.
