About Jackson Menendez

At Primera Engineers, I developed and reviewed Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plans, ensuring compliance with IDOT and Illinois Tollway standards, and responded to comments from the prime contractor. My time at Primera has also included on-site GIS surveys of stormwater, electrical, ITS, and lighting systems for the I-88 and I-355 master plan project. Additionally, I conducted horizontal and vertical alignment checks of I-88 for over 30 design requirements, reviewing historical drawings and AASHTO standards as outlined in "A Policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets". Compiled quantities and cost estimations for 16 pay items along local roads following IDOT standards. Previously, as a Transportation Engineering Consulting Intern at Cempel International, I contributed to FHWA research on roadway safety and cybersecurity, evaluated the economic impact of infrastructure projects, and analyzed how emerging technologies such as ITS, AI, and broadband expansion affect urban transportation systems for agencies, including CMAP. In addition, I have also participated in undergraduate research in environmental engineering and engineering graphics, and I was an orientation leader in the summer of 2024. I also currently serve as one of our tour guides in the office of undergraduate admissions, and I serve as the Junior Hawk Lead Ambassador, where I help organize our volunteer students (Junior Hawks). Junior Hawks help keep prospective students engaged during large events and everyday visits and play a key role in the admissions process. After completing 25 credit hours at the City Colleges of Chicago while finishing high school, I am on track to graduate with my B.S in Civil Engineering with a specialisation in structural engineering and my Master's in Public Works with a specialisation in structural engineering within 4 years.
