About Jackson Smith

I have 17 years of experience in researching vision perception, by recording and analysing brain activity that is involved in the act of seeing. This has given me a rare combination of analytical, programming, and practical hands-on skills. To make sense of these complex data sets, I routinely use quantitative and statistical analysis. I design and code my own software tools to accomplish real-time data acquisition/processing and offline data analysis. Frequently, I apply machine learning to fit predictive models to the data. To communicate the insights that I glean from data, I create informative visualisations, give oral presentations, and write papers; I always strive to boil down complex ideas into clear and simple language. By working effectively within teams of people with complementary skills, I have been able to accomplished technically challenging neuroscience research.
