About Jaclynn Castro

I am a proud, first-generation Filipino-American, but navigating two cultures while growing up in the West End of Henrico, Virginia would be a challenge for any child. I witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by immigrant families and underrepresented communities. I was fortunate to have teachers and mentors that filled the gaps I developed throughout my life as a First Gen. The love and mentorship I received from these women motivated me to pursue a career in education in the same county, where I could provide the support and guidance that I was lucky enough to receive as a student. In my seven year dedication to Early Learning Preschool, I specialized in creating supportive and nurturing learning environments for children from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. I found joy each day in meeting the needs of both my students and their families. During that time, my contributions to Equity & Diversity initiatives were my proudest work. It was such a pleasure designing professional learning opportunities and collaborating with my colleagues to create inclusive educational spaces where every child and teacher felt valued and supported. This experience was the spark that set fire to my true passion. Now, I am seeking to transition into a role that allows me to leverage my passion for creativity, inclusion, and social impact in new ways. While my experience in the classroom has given me a deep appreciation for the power of inclusive and equitable environments in academic spaces, I am eager to apply my skills in a broader, more creative context—whether it be program/product development, community engagement, or content creation. My mission is to contribute to projects and organizations that prioritize inclusivity, innovation, and empowerment, while promoting continuous professional growth.
