About Jaco Botes

With over 10 years of work experience in surgery, I am passionate about advancing the quality and accessibility of surgical care in low-resource settings. As a Clinical Coordinator at Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), I lead the Intersectional Surgical Training Program (ISTP), a unique initiative that trains MSF Surgeons from around the world in the fields of Trauma, Burns, Reconstruction, Orthopaedic and Obstetric Surgery. I am motivated by MSF's humanitarian mission and values, and I strive to bring diverse perspectives and experiences to the team.In addition to my role at MSF, I am also pursuing a Cert Gastroenterology (SA) Surg at Stellenbosch University, where I have been a Surgical Gastroenterology Fellow since January 2022. I have a strong interest and expertise in Gastroenterology, Endoscopy, Robotic and Laparoscopic Surgery. I also serve as a Lecturer and Clinical Application Developer at Stellenbosch University, where I have contributed to multiple research publications and clinical applications.
