About Jaco de Clercq

I am a senior structural engineer at CGW Consulting Engineers in Christchurch. The ethical and moral obligation associated with my profession is the cornerstone of my professional life. My colleagues describe me as consistent, dependable and unwavering in my integrity and professional ethics. I am methodical and enjoy the challenge of ensuring that all deliverables are of a consistent quality, irrespective of the challenges that each project presents. Problem solving, interdisciplinary coordination, adaptability, and communication are some of the skills I have honed to meet industry challenges head on. I like being involved in all aspects of a project, both technical and non-technical. The role of technical lead and employer representative allows me this involvement. I believe lifelong learning is vital in my profession. I actively seek to gain knowledge from more experienced engineers in my field and from engineers in other fields to maintain an up to date and holistic knowledge of the building industry. I enjoy identifying and exploring new and unfamiliar industry related topics. This helps me to stay current with building industry developments. I find transferring the technical and soft skills I have learned to junior engineers, through mentoring, a very rewarding.
