About Jacob Barker

Salutations! My name is Jacob Barker, and I am a graduate of Longwood University in Farmville, VA, graduating with a Bachelor's of Applied Sciences in Kinesiology, Applied Health Sciences Professions Concentration in May 2023. I was also a member of the Cormier Honors College for Citizen Scholars during this time at Longwood. Beyond this, I intend to obtain my Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree in 2027. I currently have experience in sales as a Hardlines Team Associate at Walmart store #1486 in Farmville, VA, which I began in June 2019. In this career, I have obtained many skills such as customer service, organization, communication/charisma, and a rounded flexibility to be successful in the workspace. I believe these skills have carried over into my other career activities, which include an internship at Centra Rehabilitation in Farmville, VA in the summer of 2022, being the Kinesiology Student Tutor at Longwood University, and being the President of the Association of Medical and Professional Kinesiology (AMPK) in the 2022-23 academic year. In my physical therapy internship, I learned an immense amount regarding the procedures of the physical therapy field as well as performing the countless roles of a Physical Therapy Technician/Aide. In my roles as Kinesiology Student Tutor and AMPK President at Longwood University, I also gained an immense amount of experience in terms of leadership, planning, and demonstrating knowledge in a variety of manners. Beyond work, I spend much of my free time performing my favorite hobby: running! Over my time as a runner, I have accomplished much, including qualifying for the 2022 New York City Marathon and 2023 Boston Marathon by running a time of 2:50:21 at the 2022 One City Marathon in Newport News, VA. With these qualifications, I have ran both World Marathon Majors, achieving a time of 2:42:26 at the 2023 Boston Marathon, placing in the top three percent of finishers! With this hobby, I have gained much experience in exercise, conditioning, and creating training routines, which I believe will help substantially in the field of PT in the near future.
