About Jacob Borger

I have a combined eight years experience in the practice of high level quantitative and statistical analysis. This is highlighted by the completion of a post graduate qualification – an independent study at the cutting edge of applied physics, making use of experimentation and modeling with proprietary software (MCNP), as well as self-developed codes and scripts. Such a qualification demonstrates strong self motivation and independent learning and time-management, as well as problem solving and analytical skills of a level not encountered in other formal qualifications, or in regular early career development.I have also successfully applied these skills in a commercial setting, beginning as a laboratory technician and advancing quickly to become a laboratory supervisor at SGS – Radiation Services, providing timely analysis and reporting to clients on the radiological content of environmental and process samples. Here, I directed the technical aspects of sample and data analysis, reporting, quality assurance and the maintenance of sophisticated laboratory equipment. This role also required planning for and executing laboratory relocation, and modification of lab workflows to minimise disruption to client work and maximise efficiency.I have been able to adapt my mathematical and science knowledge to the development of physical models in computation, having experience with MATLAB, Python and VB, as well as high level use of Microsoft Excel. Data visualisation software (Origin Pro or Python libraries) is also important in communicating results. My independent learning capability has enabled me to switch between technologies as project needs evolve, and I enjoy learning new tools. What has remained constant through all of this is the more important skills of understanding the system being modelled, objectively assessing model performance, and recognising when the model do or don’t match reality.
