About Jacob Brown

Jacob Brown, a Boston-based contemporary Gospel artist with traditional roots, is the voice and driving force of his musical family. As the singer, songwriter and producer, Brown, along with his bassist/keyboardist drumming son, Daryl, brings to life some of the funkiest, most ambient and praise-heavy R&B-flavored Christian songs you’ll ever raise your hands to Heaven to – he calls his sound “inspirational, victorious contemporary Gospel.” Whatever you call it, you can’t ignore the religious and family roots in the music –, Jacob was called to serve the Lord with his music from an early age. One of 13 brothers and sisters in his family, nearly all of them are singers, musicians or producers. Jacob’s first foray into being a musician was in the form of late night acappella Gospel singing in the hallway with his brother and cousin. Within a year, Jacob was asked by his 12-year old cousin to join their Gospel group. His earliest influences include Cedric And The Haley Singers, The Clark Sisters, Stevie Wonder, and The Dixie Hummingbirds. The biggest musical influence in Jacob’s life, he says, has to include The Bullock Brother's, a group who has been singing and performing for over 60 years, and,(naturally) they are his uncles. Until he recently set out as a solo artist, Jacob sang with Sweet Voices of Harmony, In God We Trust, and he still sings with his brothers and sisters in their group, Family of Praise. Jacob has performed in Philadelphia, New Jersey, Virginia, Georgia, Maine, North Carolina, and New Hampshire, and he has played the Hynes Convention Center in Boston and performed at Gospel Fest. Now, with his son Daryl’s drumming and keys in the studio, Jacob is recording his debut release Adding 2 the Good News for 2012 release, and if the two preview tracks he’s released on the major online outlets are any hint of the music to come from Jacob, you’re sure to be in for more soul-searching, eclectic contemporary Gospel.
