About Jacob Cipar

Here to have fun building cool software! I'm passionate about solving software problems primarily in the backend and distributed systems space. I currently am a Software Engineer at Ookla, where I build things that power Ookla's Petabyte-scale data platform of network connectivity data. Some of the things I've worked on recently include: • high-volume APIs in various programming languages • "big data" stream and batch processing with tools like Spark and Flink • developer tools to make it easier to build and maintain software and data systems • distributed tracing and observability infrastructure I have the most fun when I'm coding with Go, Python and Java but I also occasionally work with Javascript and PHP. I have extensive experience with cloud infrastructure on AWS, where I've architected and implemented solutions using a variety of services. I've primarily used Terraform for an infrastructure as code solution, and my CI/CD expertise includes setting up automated testing and deployment pipelines with GitHub Actions and AWS CodePipeline. I've also implemented monitoring and alerting systems to ensure reliability and performance of cloud-based applications. I really enjoy working with people from lots of different backgrounds, whether it's pair programming with other software engineers or partnering with folks across teams to solve problems and build the right thing.
