About Jacob Dougherty

I’ve been called persistent, relentless, and (affectionately) stubborn. But to me, persistence is just another word for refusing to settle. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve had a knack for spotting problems and an even stronger urge to solve them. If there’s one thing I can’t resist, it’s a challenge. In high school, this determination meant launching an Intersectionality Council to amplify student voices, creating a Gay-Straight Alliance where there wasn’t one, and joining the Ford Dream Builders to turn ideas into impact. Attending leadership conferences taught me that empathy and communication aren’t just soft skills—they’re the backbone of real, lasting change. Today, I bring that same problem-solving passion to my work. As a Learning Assistant, I take complex ideas and make them clear, structured, and accessible. In University and Community Housing Services, I help students and faculty navigate housing challenges with practical solutions and clear guidance. My experience as a Global Security Intern honed my ability to adapt quickly in fast-paced environments and deliver information in a way that is clear, concise, and engaging. Through all of these experiences, I’ve learned that communication is the key to meaningful change; that’s why I’ve built my education around it. I'm majoring in Communication and pursuing a Professional Writing Minor with an emphasis on Business Communication because I believe clear, effective communication is the foundation of leadership, problem-solving, and innovation.
