About Jacob Munene

Passionate about finance, risk management and the banking industry as a whole. From my days in secondary school, I was introduced to economics and I was fortunately allowed to shadow some work of an asset manager. That little experience made me apply for the financial modelling program under the Actuarial and Statistical Science department. I wanted emphasis or risk management, forecasting and financial modelling. In my Junior year I was able to get a great co-op placement at TD Securities, working in Capital Markets, as a financial analyst. I learned quite a lot from my experience at TDS, from market risk analysis, leverage analysis to analytical research. I was even able to work on some projects in which I helped improve efficiency in some of the processes we ran to generate reports. I was fortunate that they liked me enough to call me back for a second co-op in which I built upon from my previous work and learned a lot more. I have also built upon my financial analysis and research from helping manage assets summing up to $10M. For the past two years I have had a hand in creating financial models, integrating fixed income, credit risk analysis, leverage analysis and foreign exchange risk analysis to manage the fund. This has been a side project I have enjoyed over the duration of my undergraduate degree. Furthermore, I was involved in running Capstone Investments. A real estate company my friends and I started; in which we invest in real estate. From rental properties to house flips we do it all. This took a lot of critical thinking, management,financial analysis, risk management and taught me how to work under pressure. In addition to my undergraduate degree I am also pursuing a CFA designation to further my financial, analytical and risk management knowledge. So far really thoroughly enjoying it as it cumulates a lot of what I have worked on in my undergraduate and other side projects that have involved risk management and financial analysis.
