About Jacob Prohroff

I can still remember the first time I walked into a university lab like it was yesterday. There was this intense combination of emotions, the two equally strongest being that I was enamored with all the machines and foreign tools, while simultaneously feeling daunted by it all. I also remember a sense of shock that labs are NOT as neat and tidy as Hollywood often makes them out to be. Fast forward to the present moment and I find that the enamorment never really leaves. Science and my constant pursuit of understanding more about the world has always been means to the end of wanting to help others and give back in a positively impactful way. My education from the UCLA Chemical Engineering department taught me a lot about thinking critically about massive amounts of information. More importantly, it taught me about simplifying bigger problems into smaller, more manageable chunks. Combining this mode of thinking with some more tangible lab skills like in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry really allowed me to flourish as a member of the R&D team at Molecular Instruments. Since my time with Molecular Instruments began, the company has seen the release of its chromogenic driven in situ hybridization (CISH) assays. This CISH product has been well received by scientists on a global scale and I’m humbled that my personal contributions have had the impact to push forward many different projects in the spheres of industrial biopharma and academia.
