About Jacob Putney

I am an Assistant Professor (Practice) in the Department of Forest Engineering, Resources and Management at Oregon State University, College of Forestry, and an Extension Forester for Oregon State University Extension Service, serving Baker and Grant Counties in Eastern Oregon. I have completed a Master of Science in Forest Biometrics with a Minor in Statistics and a Bachelor of Science in Forestry, with an option in Forest Management, and a Minor in Business. I have experience with experimental design, managing large datasets, and developing and fitting both static and dynamic models of a wide variety of forms. My technical experience includes unit layout, timber harvest operations and planning, timber cruising and inventory, reforestation and surveys, as well as developing and implementing intensive and extensive silvicultural prescriptions. I am proficient with software such as Microsoft Office, ArcGIS, and R/R-Studio, as well as growth modeling software such as ORGANON, FVS, and LMS. I also have experience with SAS and Remsoft (Woodstock). My graduate research was conducted under the advisement of Dr. Douglas Maguire, and is part of the Center for Intensive Planted-forest Silviculture (CIPS) cooperative. Thesis Title: Assessing Mechanisms of Douglas-fir Growth Response to Nitrogen Fertilization in Western Oregon My current research focusses on describing the effects of intensive silviculture through modelling different mechanisms of response. Other research I am currently working on explores the influence of initial infection severity of Western Dwarf Mistletoe on even-aged Ponderosa Pine, thinned to various residual densities. My research interests include: Forest Modelling and Biometrics, Growth and Yield, Silviculture, and Forest Health.
