About Jacob Ramirez
Jacob Ramirez holds a BA in English from CSU, Fullerton. He earned his MA in Creative Writing from England's Lancaster University where he was awarded the Portfolio Prize with valedictorian honors. An educator of twenty years, Jacob has worked in California's public high schools as an instructor of English Language Learners, College-Preparatory English; AP and IB. He has worked for international private schools in China, the United Arab Emirates, and Turkey. Throughout his career, Jacob has constructed creative writing programs with award-winning authors, among them, National Book Award winner, Elizabeth Acevedo. He is the recipient of several teaching honors, including Merced Union High School District's 'Teacher of the Year' Award. He has also earned teaching excellence honors from the National Society for High School Scholars, the United States Congress, and the California State Senate. In 2020, founded Cloverse, a publication highlighting teen writers from Sonoma County, California. Jacob's poetry has appeared in several publications, among them his debut poetry pamphlet entitled, KITCHEN BOOMBOX (ignitionpress 2022); Haymarket Books' THE BREAKBEAT POETS' LatiNEXT; THE BEST NEW POETS 2022; LATINO BOOK REVIEW MAGAZINE; and more. In 2021, Jacob began his PhD study in Creative Writing at the University of Lancaster. From 2021-2023, Jacob has been an instructional coach and mentor for the Cloverdale Unified School District. In the fall of 2023, Jacob accepted a position as Multilingual Project Coordinator at the Sonoma County Office of Education where he facilitates training for classroom teachers in integrated and designated ELD strategies. In 2024, Jacob has broadened his work to include greater Social Justice and Equity work.
