Background
About Jacob Schoff
I am currently an MSW graduate looking for work in Manhattan!I graduated with a Master of Social Work degree from the University at Albany this past May, 2024. I am also fortunate to have graduated with both my bachelor's in social work and psychology from Siena College in the Spring of 2023. While completing my undergrad, I acted as a public awareness coordinator for several campus-wide walks. I worked with homeless veterans through Siena's Hotspotting Program; where I collaborated with healthcare and nursing students to identify and reach clients' healthcare goals. I continued to take interest in the homelessness crisis during my undergraduate senior field placement. Here, I acted as a student social worker for Joseph's House & Shelter Outreach Van; providing outreach and care coordination for individuals who are unhoused and unsheltered in Albany. I was fortunate enough to continue serving this population throughout completing my graduate degree. Through my time in the MSW program at UAlbany, I was employed as an Outreach Advocate for Joseph's House & Shelter. Here I was really able to hone case management skills, as well as the navigation of resources, benefits, and referrals. I was able to strengthen interpersonal skills, de-escalation techniques, and assessment skills, to inform client goals and individualized care plans. My graduate field placement was with the National Association of Social Workers - NYS Chapter. In my role as the CE Program Evaluation, Data Analysis, & Student Series Intern, I was able to learn valuable insights and expand macro level skills important to facilitating social justice. Gaining experience in program evaluation, data analysis, program planning, and program facilitation has improved my confidence as a social worker, and improved my ability to combat inequality. I am interested in the homelessness crisis, as well as the intersection of our mental health, substance abuse, and healthcare systems. Professionally, I aspire to advocate for others, while encouraging policy reformation in our healthcare and criminal justice systems. My immediate professional goals include gaining social work licensure, and improving Spanish competency (fluency is the ultimate goal). I am an enthusiastic social worker who is both internally and externally motivated. I am truly passionate about my field, my work, and the clients I serve. I hope to join an agency that is equally passionate about facilitating social justice, and advocating to improve the quality of life of clients and communities.
