About Jacob Thatcher

Jacob grew up on a potato farm, was a missionary in Brazil for two years, then river-guide for 3 years on the Colorado River. He also lived in Alaska and the Philippines and taught anatomy and physiology as an Adjunct Professor at Brigham Young University. Jacob’s passion is rural health. He was named the 2018 Rural Student Doctor Year and as past Fellow and board member of the National Rural Health Association is pursuing legislation to strengthen access to rural urology. Jacob is also a strong advocate for interprofessional collaboration and humanism in medicine. He is founding chair of a student-led interprofessional consortium that has presented at 8 different national conferences. He is past president of the Gold Humanism in Honor Society chapter of his medical school. He was also recently named a distinguished Paul Ambrose Scholar for his work addressing chronic pain in Idaho. He is currently a Urology Resident in the Jefferson Hospital System in South Jersey. The things he loves most in life are his wife and daughters, his relationship with God and the amazing outdoors.
