About Jacob Tome

I'm a scientist and team leader with deep expertise in high-throughput screening, gene regulation, and AAV capsid directed evolution. Over the past several years at Shape Therapeutics, I’ve built and led experimental platforms that power therapeutic discovery. From these platforms we’ve advanced both CNS-targeted capsids and tissue-specific promoters from screening through validation and early preclinical development. My work sits at the intersection of functional genomics, synthetic biology, and machine learning driven design. I’ve managed cross-functional teams, contributed to partnered programs, and served as the wet lab lead for a flagship screening platform. I'm currently exploring new opportunities in: Screening leadership roles at startups pushing the boundaries of gene regulation or protein design; Principal scientist roles at larger companies developing biologics or next-gen gene therapies; Emerging company formation, particularly around genomics and data-driven target discovery; Broader biotech/tech leadership roles where my project ownership and cross-functional coordination skills can drive complex efforts forward.
