Background
About Jacob Warner
I am an archaeologist and paleoclimatologist, meaning that I look at not only the people and cultures of the past, but also the environments in which they lived. I have extensive excavation, surface survey, mapping, and lab experience in Peru and Louisiana (a total of 9 years of field and lab experience as of 2019). My dissertation research focused on using stable isotopes from short lived bivalves (clams) from archaeological sites in Peru to reconstruct past climatic patterns, especially the El Niño-Southern Oscillation. To that end, I have been developing my skills sampling organically precipitated carbonates for various geochemical analyses, and also generating and interpreting the resulting data (which includes understanding climate patterns and another subset of skills including Python based coding and basic statistical analysis). I have also worked for several projects in Peru identifying mollusks and helping collect modern specimens for comparative collections and educational purposes. In addition to my academically oriented experience, I spent a summer interning with the US Forest Service and have spent several years working with the LSU section of the South Central Climate Adaptation Science Center on educational and research projects, which has included working with STEM underrepresented minority interns from SCCASC institutions and Native American tribes and pueblos in Louisiana and New Mexico. I have presented at multiple conferences across several disciplines, and am open to further collaboration with researchers from any and all backgrounds. I am currently a postdoctoral researcher in the the Schubert Lab, School of Geosciences, University of Louisiana at Lafayette. My work will focus on using the oxygen stable isotopes of mummified wood to reconstruct Eocene (~54 million years ago) temperatures.
