About Jacqueline Brady

Writing is a transforming and transformative practice, and I have dedicated my career to it. From the time I won my first writing contest in fourth grade with my collection of poetry, I have loved writing and the voice it gave me. I was a shy child, but I could always express myself comfortably with words on a page. What I love even more than expressing my own ideas is helping others more effectively write theirs. Perhaps this seems odd, but I was an avid reader before I became a writer, and I can melt into the worlds created by words. I continue to read broadly, finishing at least a book a week and alternating between fiction and nonfiction. All of that time with my eyes on the page, analyzing words, means that I also notice when the writing just doesn't work as well as it should. My obsession with words led to a couple of degrees in English (BA, MA, MTESOL), and now I have twenty years of experience in teaching university writing classes. I've taught First-Year Composition (for traditional and international students), Reflective Writing, Persuasive Writing on Public Issues, Business Writing, and a graduate course on English for Academic Purposes. My true strength in teaching these classes is in the feedback I provide to students. With careful readings, I can offer insights that help students add clarity, depth, and audience awareness to their written works. I am deeply interested in the ways that technology impacts writing as well. I have taught in traditional classrooms, online, and in hybrid formats, and I quickly adapt to new programs and platforms. Currently, I am conducting research on how generative AI will impact college writing and how it can be used as an effective tool in many contexts. I bring my writing skills and audience awareness to my side hustle as well, since I am an entrepreneur in the real estate industry with five short-term rental listings. My communication skills help me connect with others and maintain a 98% five-star rating among previous guests. No matter what technologies arise in the future, writing and the ability to do it well will remain a critical aspect of many industries. My mission is to help everyone choose their words just a little bit better.
