Background
About Jacqueline Jim
Jacqueline Jim is a First Nations (mixed) woman from W̱SÁNEĆ and W̱LEMI Nations, the emerging people and the people of the sea. She grew up on a small rural reserve surrounded by family and community in W̱SÁNEĆ, on her father’s family land. Her lived experience growing up on the rez continues to shape her approach as an educator and coach—grounded, practical, and connected to community realities. She began her teaching career close to home as a SENĆOŦEN immersion teacher at the SENĆOŦEN Survival School in Brentwood Bay, B.C, where she taught and worked for eight years. She now serves as a Languages Instructional Coach with the First Nations Education Steering Committee (FNESC), supporting First Nations language teachers across B.C. with program development, curriculum design, and classroom strategies. Her work emphasizes education, facilitation, and coaching that are rooted in language revitalization and responsive to the needs of local communities.Jacqueline earned her Master’s in Indigenous Language Revitalization (MILR) at the University of Victoria in 2016, writing an auto-ethnographic account of her own language learning journey alongside her community’s revitalization efforts. A lifelong learner of SENĆOŦEN, she has grown into a language activist, teacher, researcher, and coach, committed to building pathways for language revitalization that are practical, sustainable, and rooted in Indigenous worldviews.Beyond her professional role, Jacqueline is passionate about community politics and engagement, working alongside others to strengthen governance, transparency, and grassroots voices. She is also the proud mother of three beautiful daughters, who remind her daily why this work matters. In all that she does, she strives to walk the walk, give back to the community, and remain humble, grounded in her teachings and responsibilities as a W̱SÁNEĆ and W̱LEMI woman.
