Empowering people through education—that’s what my career has been about, and I love this work. I am gentle by nature, a trait I see as a strength. I possess a fierce determination, which is something I’ve lost touch with at different times in my life but it’s there, alive and well. I surprised myself when I fell in love with weightlifting—it pushes me to be better and stronger. It’s challenging and rewarding. It tests my mettle and I persevere. It’s empowering. Education, for me, was the beginning of my journey towards empowerment. I had a lot of wonderful teachers who walked with me along a winding and sometimes bumpy route. I want to give back. Through the process of earning an English degree, I honed my communication and writing skills. I found my voice. A major in English also taught me the power of story. Stories enable us to understand not only ourselves, but also others whose lived experiences differ from our own. Empathy is the gift we receive through story. A Master of Education taught me how to share my love of learning in order to help others realize their potential. Education is foundational for living a purposeful and rewarding life. My purpose is to be part of a team that supports and inspires students to reach their goals. Witnessing student growth and success is the reward. I want to give back.
