About Jacquelyn Brice

One of the greatest challenges of our generation is responding to the climate crisis. This affects people of all social classes and backgrounds in profound ways. I chose to study architecture because I could see that the built environment has a direct impact on not only the natural environment but health and well being as well. Working in this field is the best way to do my part in helping make a positive impact on our global climate. I didn't come to study architecture through an ordinary path. My undergraduate studies in kinesiology were focused on individual's health. Everything I learned in this time was extremely valuable to my understanding of the scale of the issue of health and wellness. Many of the most common health problems are directly caused by our environment. I knew that even if I was able to help people as individuals learn how to live a healthy lifestyle, they would still struggle with the issues brought about by the environment and would not be able to optimize their health. I realized the problem I was most interested in solving lies outside the field of kinesiology. I have always been a creative person, and I find a lot of joy in creating music and visual art. One of my favorite endeavors in Columbus, IN has been participating in the community orchestra. However, the marching arts in particular has always been a passion of mine. I have given much of my free time and energy the past decade to youth marching arts programs. Teaching younger generations to be competent musicians and confident performers has helped me grow into a better communicator of ideas. As a student of Indiana University's inaugural master's of architecture class, graduating in 2021, I am not afraid to take chances on new ways of doing things, especially when I can tell the leadership is passionate about their mission. I know that it will take new ideas and processes of doing things to meet the challenges of our changing world, and I am ready to take those challenges on.
