About Jacques Michael

Born into an eco active farming/horticultural family, I am a fourth generation horticulturalist. I have both a personal and professional passion for the environment to further my experience in these fields I have successfully worked in diverse environmental sectors throughout my career. This has given me a broadened outlook and skill base where I implement effective and workable strategies to overcome complexities that constantly arise when working in our dynamic natural environment. I currently manage civil and environmental compliance issues for Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD's) or storm water quality management assets on the Gold Coast. Which includes assessing design issues, monitoring and overseeing the construction of Bio Filtration assets, constructed wetlands and associated water quality management devices throughout the City of Gold Coast I provide ongoing education within council and industry surrounding design, construction and maintenance of the these complex environmental protection assets. To that end I also been a contributor to the recently update QLD Water by Design WSUD guidelines. I work closely with environmental and ESC development and management within the City ofGold Coast, actively monitoring/auditing the diverse civil and domestic construction industry assessing the implementation and management of onsite ESC/environmental controls on construction sites, some of which are up to 1.2 million m2 in size and complexity. WSUD assets are complex environmental water quality management systems and are unique to each development environment in which they are constructed requiring a broad knowledge and skill base to ensure whole of life outcome benefits for the local Govt. Asset custodians, the natural environment and for the people who live around them knowing their natural waterways and natural areas are being protected. I specialise in the assessment and compliance of the whole of life aspects of these assets and the environments they are designed to integrate with and protect, from design through construction and maintenance
