About Jacques Warichet

I am passionate about energy and sustainability. Through my attitude and actions, I am a strong supporter of the energy transition and sustainable initiatives. After working for over 20 years in energy and the power sector, I can claim experience from the perspective of research, utilities, consultancy and vendors, as well as policy makers. I currently work as a policy analyst and project manager in the Renewable Integration and Secure Electricity Unit at the International Energy Agency. My focus area is power sector reforms toward secure, affordable and sustainable electricity. Before joining the IEA in 2021, I held various roles in electricity transmission analysis, planning and operations. My areas of expertise include electricity security and markets design, grids, and integration of renewables and new electricity end uses. I have experience working in both advanced and emerging and developing economies, in particular Europe, Southeast Asia, China, Africa and the Middle East. My interests and knowledge go beyond the specific know-how in power systems and cover a wide range of topics, with a focus on energy efficiency and mobility, and their links with sustainable living and the smart cities of the future; promotion of innovation within organisations. My other skills include writing and public speaking, team management and mentoring, project management, stakeholder management, event organisation and teaching. I hold a Master in Electromechanical Engineering and a PhD in Power Engineering in addition to a Master in General Management, all from the University of Brussels, Belgium.
