About Jade Coxon

I am a senior, graduating in May 2025, in the College of Engineering at Purdue University, with plans to major in bioengineering and concentrate in cellular and biomolecular design. In addition to this concentration, I plan on minoring in biotechnology and have a strong interest in mathematics and synthetic biology research and applications. I desire to research engineering applications in the field of biology, with a particular focus on biofuels, bioenergy, and other sustainability-focused research efforts. I also have an interest in drug design and drug delivery devices. I discovered a passion for research from my experience in the Biotechnology Laboratory classes I completed, in which I worked with a group of three other peers to advance the worldwide research effort to find and sequence novel bacteriophages. I now work at the Purdue Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering as an undergraduate researcher, engineering bacteria to produce compounds to control macrophage polarization and reduce inflammation. I also completed an internship with the National Renewable Energy laboratory, researching replication origins to expand the genetic engineering toolbox for sustainable fuel development using bacteria.
