About Jade Miles

With the bush in my bones & business in my head, I'm a poly-jobist right down to my toes (which are probably barefoot & muddy). I've been a local food advocate & educator for the last decade & co founded the Beechworth food coop. In 2020 I launched the Futuresteading podcast which now has 150 episodes & I wrote a book by the same name which was toured across Australia & the USA. My second book 'Huddle' is due to launch in April 2025 & will also be toured throughout Australia & the UK in 25 & 26. To be sure I'm putting my efforts where my mouth is & my regenerative learning is practical I'm also a heritage fruit farmer. Together with my husband & three kids, we established & run Black Barn Farm, a biodiverse u-pick orchard, nursery & learning space in Northeast Victoria. We host school programs, homesteading workshops & are open to the public from December until June to pick organically grown fruit from the intentionally wild orchard. Over the last decade I've sat on multiple boards – all in the name of reconnecting people to nature, food & a simpler existence. From a childhood sitting quietly at my Dads feet while he painted the ochre tones of the land, to dodging exploding jars of homemade tomato sauce as a homegrown hippy kid I went on to teach drama to kids in the bush, hitchhike through central America solo, set up cafes in Cambodia & Vanuatu all the while dipping back into strategic development work for values aligned businesses such as Sustainable Table where I have been the CEO since 2020 I have been part of a catalytic change in direction at the organisation from a once small Victorian based, education enterprise that connected eaters to their food & the growers who created it, to its current day vision of transforming farming, food & fibre systems through regenerative ways of being, doing & knowing. Grounded in care for people & planet, the team facilitates connection, collaboration, funding & learning to catalyse change across Australia. Encouraging us all to step outside our comfortable place, be still, be curious, be observant & be united in our celebration of food & those who grow it is what I love most.
