For 15 years I have been writing content that campaigns, builds relationships, creates a sense of community, and helps people feel championed. Whether creating SEO blogs, web copy, social media or print copy, I get particularly excited about anything that is for social good, historical or on the subject of equality. That has overlapped with the part of marketing that I enjoy the most - building audiences, both for paid advertising and for organic footprint. I have always been a natural mediator in life, and to me, that's what a writer is. A relationship builder. That’s why I work well as part of a communications team, and have gained skills beyond writing, from project management to UX and later on in running a small business - it all starts with the broad skills of communication.Project managementI have been involved in project management for IT support and web development for the last five years. It’s a natural overlap for anyone in content who manages website content - because as an admin and editor, you are also a user. And you know how you want your message conveyed. So it’s not hard to put yourself in the shoes of others when overseeing digital projects - as well as understanding the work the technical team does. I once read that content is a form of user experience, and I think that’s true, and that’s why there’s a natural overlap with digital. But ultimately everything is about people, even business, because industry is based on giving people something they need, and then facilitating the delivery of that. It’s all related.
