Background
About Jaelyn Walker
Hello, my name is Jaelyn Walker and I’m a first-year nursing major at Drexel University. Some information about me is that I’m from Alexandria, Virginia and I grew up in a single parent household. In my family being civically engaged and education both academically and for pleasure have always been an ongoing part of my childhood. My current nursing experience that started during high school has inspired me to develop a passion and goals for my future. My long-term goal is to continue my education after undergrad and earn a doctorate specialized in obstetrics and gynecology. Three things you should know when employing me is that I’m always displaying diligence with special attention to details, I have great communication skills, and a huge commitment to patient care and advocacy. Currently during the school year, I have found interest in local volunteering opportunities in the University City area of Philadelphia at the University of Pennsylvania, I’ve gone several times with my friends on the weekend to help put together activities or preparing care packages to give to the homeless during the holidays. I think volunteering is essential as it helps build up my community, and I also enjoy surrounding myself with people who share that same value. Along with volunteering I’m also a chair member of the Board of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. One of my many passions is to always create an inclusive environment and to bring awareness to issues that various populations may experience within society, I believe it’s always important to educate others while also continually educating myself as I learn about other issues that impact others. One of the very reasons I wanted to become a nurse was because of how much value relationships, whether the relationship is personal or therapeutic it always makes a huge impact on my life. I would describe myself as being empathetic, humorous, and caring. These traits are essential when it comes to any form of professional care and is heavily influenced by my own relationships in my personal life and I love to utilize these characteristics.
