About Jaime Brown

Qualified NZSL Tutor | Full-time NZSL Interpreter | Co-Founder Deaf Way NZ With nearly 20 years of involvement in the Deaf community, I have dedicated over a decade to teaching New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) as a qualified tutor and have been a full-time NZSL interpreter since 2020. Currently, I serve on the NZSL Board, a ministerial advisory group contributing to the growth and development of New Zealand Sign Language, ensuring it's preservation and maintenence. As the Co-Director and Co-Founder of Merge NZ, I played a pivotal role in launching New Zealand's first live online NZSL teaching program, connecting learners with qualified tutors. My commitment to promoting inclusion and equity recently led to the selection of my Deaf Culture and Sign Language online training project for the Project Change program established by Concentrix in June 2023. As a result of this.project incubator program I attended One Young World 2023 in Belfast and launched a self-paced, interactive online training program for all 270k + staff at Concentrix. This then led to the establishment of Deaf Way NZ to further this work, and my attendance at One Young World 2024 in Montréal where I delivered a workshop and key note. I was honored to be a finalist in the Women of Influence Awards in 2020, reflecting my passion for equity and access. Additionally, my experience as an Employment Specialist for the Deaf and a Case Manager in the insurance industry has equipped me with a diverse skill set that I leverage to advocate for accessibility and inclusion.
