I read thousands of emails everyday. I have a lot of email addresses. Step 1: I observe the approach of a subject line - Does it entice me to open the email? Step 2: Content - Does it relate to me? Is there something of value in this email? Step 3: CTA - What is the main call-to-action? Is it clearly defined? Step 4: Design/Readability - Does the email look good? Is it easy to read through? Are there too many images? Not enough images? How does it look on my phone versus desktop? What does it look like in dark mode? Step 5: Where are you taking me? Am I deleting your email or find it worth filing to read more later? Am I favoriting it? Or have you really hooked me and now I’m making a purchase, providing my personal information for future emails, am I giving you my “real” email address that I really want more from you?
