About Jaime E. Barrientos

I am a psychologist with a master's degree in sociology and a PhD in social psychology. I have postdoctoral training in Spain and France. I have worked at the Catholic University of the North, Antofagasta, Chile (formerly the Jesuit University of the North), at the University of Santiago de Chile (a public university), and I am currently a full professor (the highest rank in Chilean universities) in the Faculty of Psychology at the University Alberto Hurtado, in Santiago, Chile. At that university, I was director of research and postgraduate studies. I have taught in Spain and France in master's and doctoral programs. My academic experience is focused on social psychology and well-being. It also includes gender and diversity training. My research has focused on the study of prejudice and discrimination in various social groups and their effects on mental health. It has also focused on the study of sexuality, gender relations, and other markers of social difference. In addition, it has focused on the study of psychosocial processes linked to social and political processes in Latin America. I have training in quantitative and qualitative analysis. I have carried out various research projects as a principal investigator with competitive national funding and have participated and continue to participate as a co-investigator in various international projects with colleagues from Argentina, Brazil, Spain, France, the USA, Portugal, among other countries. My scientific productivity is extensive in indexed journals (WoS, Scopus, and Scielo) and other types of journals (more than a hundred). I have also published book chapters in international publications. I have written several books of my own. I participate in various editorial committees of international journals and am a member of international scientific societies such as the International Academy of Sex Research (IASR) and the World Association of Sexual Health. I am a member of various editorial boards of scientific journals (Journal of Homosexuality, International Journal of Sexual Health, Journal of Sex Research, Psychology of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity), and Associate Editor of PSYKHE, PLOS ONE and International Journal of Social Psychology: Revista de Psicología Social)
