Background
About Jaime Martinez
Jaime Martinez is a proud graduate of Johns Hopkins University and North Allegheny whose work is grounded in the belief that human dignity must be the cornerstone of both policy and community life. He brings this conviction into the classroom as an instructor at Carnegie Mellon University, where he teaches students the fundamentals of leadership, community engagement, and organizing. In this role, he empowers the next generation to bridge divides, mobilize with integrity, and lead with a vision rooted in justice. Beyond academia, Jaime serves as the community defense organizer at Casa San José, a community resource center for immigrant families, where he leads work at the intersection of law, organizing, and human rights. His role spans from navigating complex legal systems and accompanying families in moments of crisis to coordinating large-scale mobilizations that resist and amplify truths about detention and deportation. This dual approach—supporting individuals while mobilizing entire communities—has made him a trusted advocate for immigrant dignity and justice. Jaime’s leadership also extends to the political arena. As Northwest Pennsylvania Political Director for the Harris–Walz coordinated campaign, he helped drive turnout in a critical swing region and built durable grassroots coalitions. Earlier, as co-founder and executive director of NA For Change, he launched a youth-driven coalition for equity in education, earning recognition from the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh through its inaugural Emerging Leadership Award. His historic campaign for school board, where he and his slate flipped the board to a Democratic majority for the first time, garnered national endorsements and media attention, further amplifying his commitment to youth empowerment and inclusive governance. His advocacy has been featured in national and local publications, and he has spoken on stages across the country about dignity-centered and consensus-based leadership in polarized communities, including at a White House-affiliated national conference through the Hispanic Heritage Foundation. Across every chapter of his work—teaching, organizing, campaigning, and public speaking—Jaime carries forward a consistent vision: that justice begins with dignity, and that lasting change is only possible when communities are empowered to lead their own future.
