About Jake Craig

I have been interested in Information Technology for as long as I can remember and am fascinated by understanding how computers work and their limitless possibilities. I want to be part of the future of networking and the internet and make a positive contribution to their development. I am particularly interested in personal computers and networks. My passion for computers extends beyond school and university. In my spare time I enjoy fixing, maintaining and upgrading my computers and those of friends and family. I also enjoy running and administrating web forums and VOIP servers which allows me to communicate with my friends from all over the world. I have also taught myself several programming languages using textbooks and Codecademy.com. While I was still at school I assisted with a Third Year Computing class helping younger pupils reach a better understanding of the subject and gain skills that would not be taught in a traditional classroom setting. Immediately after, in August 2014, I went to Thailand to work as a volunteer teacher with the educational charity Project Trust. I returned to the UK in August 2015. I worked in a rural part of the north of the country teaching English to secondary school pupils who have very little English in a school with limited and very basic facilities. Part of my duties involve developing and delivering my timetable and I have used my interest in IT as the basis of a number of classes. Project Trust has a rigorous process for selecting volunteers including time spent on the Isle of Coll in the Hebrides and participation in various exercises that are challenging and involve problem solving and team building. As it is a charity I had to raise a several thousands of pounds to support my work in Thailand.
