About Jake Fowler

The focus of my 17-year career has been about understanding the customer and developing marketing strategies that best complement those insights. I came to realize early on in my career that without understanding the consumer, marketing is a guess at best. At worst it is a biased, rashly conceived attempt at telling the product’s story, only appealing to those that are already using a product. That is why developing a marketing intelligence program that results in true insight for any company is a vital part of the process. To develop strategies around your customers a company must first understand them. In my opinion this is best done by studying them. This means their actions, their wants, their motivations, and in most cases, what makes them similar to each other, or different from others. From there insights can be made with regards to the messaging, segmentation, targeting, awareness and attitude, and market viability studies (including pricing elasticity). At the same time, conveying this message and telling this story takes a degree of artistry. Analyst often speak in numbers that are lost to the audience and do not relay the nuances of real people.
