About Jake Garrett

For the past seven years I have lived and worked outside of the UK. All of the jobs I have taken on in this time have been limited to what a non-native person, intent on not staying in any place for long, can do. Early on in my travels I realized that English teaching is by far the most prolific role for a native English speaker abroad. Over the past seven years I have become a highly capable English language teacher, teaching in schools, academies, on intensive courses, and online. In 2019, while traveling in Latin America, I started teaching English online as a means to earn money whilst continuing to travel. In 2020 the pandemic hit and I decided to stay on as an online English language teacher, as it was a stable job at a very unstable time. Now I am looking for something more permanent. My years of travel are over and I now want to pursue a career. Over the years I have not only become a competent English language teacher, but have also gained managerial skills. I have continued to write since finishing my Journalism degree in 2014, writing music reviews, travel journalism pieces, cartoon scrips, and graphic novels. As a result of my years of travel, I feel as if I have also gotten to know the travel industry better than most. I have worked or volunteered in hostels and hotels, have explored and used many of the services in the modern travel industry, and have visited a range of different places. As well as these tangible skills, I am also a capable worker, someone who always arrives on time, meets deadlines, tries their best, and learns quickly. I have never been fired from a job and I have aimed to please everybody whose managed me.
