About Jake Mercury

I am a designer, fabricator, educator, and artist based in Adelaide, Australia.I work across design detailing, large-scale steel sculpture construction, bespoke furniture manufacturing, theatre/film set production, and civic/public art projects.I continue to work as an educator with the University of South Australia where I have held roles as a Lecturer and Course Coordinator, in the Bachelor of Interior Architecture program.Since being invited to produce an experimental work for the retrospective and new furniture exhibition 'Adelaide Modern' at JamFactory in 2018 I have exhibited work nationally as well as engaged in speaking events and panel discussions. In 2020 I was the recipient of the Adelaide Fringe Festival/George Street Studios residency where I spent 12 months developing new techniques and advancing my creative practice. I was subsequently invited to produce work for the 2022 Palmer Sculpture Biennial. In 2023 I exhibited new work at Melbourne Design Week and in 2024 my work 'Buller Chair' was recognised by the Waterhouse Art Prize with a high commendation. It is currently being exhibited at the National Archives in Canberra. I am currently focussing my professional attention on detail design work in the Defence sector.I welcome discussions around collaborations, exhibition work, and fabrication/manufacturing, as well as education or speaking opportunities.
