About Jake Regner

August 2023 was when I decided I wanted to work in cybersecurity. Prior to that, I had a general idea that I might be a data analyst, but I didn’t have a specific industry or job in mind. Cybersecurity was the most attractive to me. It seemed purposeful, required nonstop learning, and paid quite well to seasoned professionals!So when I started that journey, my cybersecurity background knowledge was minimal and I didn’t know which type of job to pursue, but I began studying for the CompTIA exams, passing the Network+ in September, then the Security+ in November.I also didn’t know anyone who worked in cybersecurity, so I attended the Texas Cyber Summit in Austin, and there I connected with people who were experienced in the industry, as well as people like me who were just starting out.After those experiences, I decided I’d start preparing for a junior role as a SOC Analyst. I started out using Hack The Box and LetsDefend, but personally found the TryHackMe SOC Analyst I learning path to be the most helpful for beginners. This learning path gives users an intro on how to use common industry tools like MITRE, Snort, Wireshark, Splunk, Autopsy, KAPE, etc.Now I’m looking for my first junior analyst opportunity!
