About Jake Shi

I completed my Honors Specialization in Computer Science from Western University in London, Ontario in 2021. During my study at Western, I have also completed an 18 months internship at Hydro One as a Data and Test Automation Specialist. This internship opportunity has provided me with many programming skills and experiences working as a team. At Hydro One, I communicated with end-users during information gathering sessions to understand user pain points in daily operation. I created numerous user-specified VBA tools from the ground up for the team to have easier data extraction and organization. Since my graduation from Western University, I have been working as an SDE1 on the frontend team of Amazon's Online Assessment group which has provided valuable technical skills to further my career as a software engineer. During my time at Amazon, I have implemented new user-facing features such as the written evaluation module for Amazon’s Online Assessment Website to enhance the candidate experience and to have a better assessment of the candidate’s ability. In addition, I have led the process to achieve automated translation for internationalization of the OA website to avoid manual errors and will reduce turnaround time on deployments by creating custom command line API calls. Studying Computer Science at Western University as well as the work experience I had at Hydro One and Amazon has allowed me to gain valuable knowledge and skills such as practical experience in programming using Python, Java, JavaScript, and SQL; the ability to work collaboratively with others to achieve company standards; and reliable with sharp attention to detail and accuracy in work.
