About Jake Speert

I am an attorney at Kilpatrick, Townsend & Stockton LLP. Since joining KTS, I have focused on managing client IP portfolios including drafting patent applications and responding to USPTO notices. I graduated with a Tech Edge JD certification from Santa Clara University School of Law: this school is ranked within the top four intellectual property law programs in the USA. I was on the leadership board for several student groups and participated in the USPTO National Patent Drafting Competition. I have two Bachelor’s of Science degrees, one in microbiology and another computer science, and a Master’s of Science in computer science. I wrote my honor’s thesis on research I conducted in the interactive visualization lab. I was also a teaching assistant for several rigorous computer science courses, allowing me to develop my interpersonal skills by helping students from different educational/cultural backgrounds debug their code and ultimately learn the course material. As someone with a strong STEM background and a passion for contract law, I am well suited to move into the field of IP and tech transactions (including trademarks and copyrights). However, my ambitious nature, outgoing personality, and strong work ethic will help me perform well at any job I take.
